Florence and the Machine- July 22, 2012

It's been about 6 months since Crystal asked me if I wanted to go to the Florence and the Machine concert at Edgefield, so I've been looking forward to it for a while and it was well worth the wait.  She was a fantastic performer and a totally different performer than what I expected.  She flitted across the stage, twirled like a ballerina, and overall was really sweet.  She even said, in dancing, skill doesn't matter, it's more about enthusiasm.  Awesome.

Birthday Luau- July 14, 2012

You can't beat Portland summers, so I love having a summer birthday and getting to grill out in the backyard.  Darren manned the grills, Lindsay baked me a delicious cake, we had great company, Jeremiah loved the silly snake kiddie pool, and overall I had a great time.

Bday #31- July 12, 2012

So while going to work on you birthday is not usually the most fun, it was actually a great birthday.  My all-star team who I've had so much fun working with this month decorated our call room, made me cupcakes, and gave me card to start the day.  I definitely felt the love, especially after going through the whole day last year without anyone knowing.  After work, I snuck in a quick nap and then headed to dinner at Andina, a place I've been wanting to try for it's ceviche, a delectable delight that I've loved since eating it in Peru.  The night ended with Crystal and I wandering aimlessly through the Pearl and Downtown Portland on a long ambling walk in search of the fancy spanish coffee place, Huber's and ending up at Portland City Grill's top floor view of the city.  And to top it off, Lindsay had left me some flowers in my room for when I got back.  A great day surrounded by good people.

Sauvie Island and Portland in the Summer- July 8, 2012

It was a day of exploration in Portland.  We went all over basking in the sunlight, starting in Sauvie Island where we strolled in fragrant Lavender fields, hit up the farmer's market and gorged on berries.  Then we headed back to Portland as S.I.'s beach was busy and hit up the Wooden Boat Festival and lounged in Wilamette Park.  We finished the night with some grilling at Esther's.  Good times.

Angel's Rest- July 7, 2012

July and August are the most beautiful months of the year out here in the Pac NW, so I'm taking every opportunity to get out there this year.  So after a quick post-call nap, I went out with my new friend Brandy for a long hike in the Gorge.  Angel's Rest has a beautiful panoramic view of the gorge and was totally worth it.  Ahh, sunny Portland.

Sara and Sid in PDX- July 4, 2012

I'm so excited that Sara and Sidney have moved to Portland.  Though I was on call for the 4th, I did get out during daylight and got to enjoy some tennis and kid-time.  Nothing better than hammock time.

US Olympic Team Track and Field Trials- June 29-30, 2012

I get so excited for the Olympics each time around and so I was pumped to go watch the US Olympic Track and Field Trials in nearby Eugene, OR, otherwise known as Tracktown, USA and the historic Hayward Field.  Watching all the athletes was inspiring.  To see athletes at the peak of physical performance, perfection.  Plus, it was fun to watch with our group of former KU track and field athletes and to cheer for our current KU athletes in the field.  It was also cool to take a pic with Dan O'Brien of decathalon fame and the 2006 Olympic Gold Medalist.  Ashley was so excited.

The Bourbon Trail- June 26, 2012

So it was quite the random crew to hit up Kentucky's famous Bourbon Trail.  2 Asians, a lady with a baby, and a pregnant lady.  Ha.  Anyhoo, it was really all about spending time together, learning something about Bourbon, about which I know nothing, and seeing the beautiful scenery of the area.

Cincinnati Girls- June 25, 2012

I keep on coming back to Cincinnati because of all the good people there and I was happy to get to catch some din din with Ndidi, Tara, Marian, and Patty.  Our crew is getting more spread out though as I missed Elizabeth and Cathy before they spread out to Arkansas and D.C. respectively, so I'll miss seeing everyone in one place, but it's fun to have more places to visit too.
